Q+A with Kate, Our Chief Creative Officer
Q: What inspired the creation of this new jewelry collection?
A: Stranded was a real ah-ha moment for me. I love to stack, it’s kind of in our DNA here at Alex and Ani. But I, like everyone else, want the look of stacked, eclectic jewelry without spending 15 minutes putting bracelets on. For me, it’s the perfect blend of function and form. Each stranded is thoughtfully designed to offer a little magic for everyday; a powerful symbol, a pop of crystal color, a styled chain- we wanted to capture the essence of elevated stacking by working with intricate, meaningful designs created with premium materials.
Q: What role does creativity play in the design process for this collection?
A: Creative expression is at the heart of everything we do, we design for people that love to make jewelry look and feel their own- and that count on their jewelry to take their daily wardrobe from stylish to personal. Creative inspiration is obviously important to the aesthetic of the pieces, but it also guides the function of our jewelry as well. That’s why we spent as much time designing how you put it on as we did how it looks. Stranded is made from premium Stainless Steel and IP Plating, which provides the look and feel of real gold and silver with a heavy-duty wear (and a much nicer price). These are water, sweat and tarnish resistant pieces, i.e. jewelry for real life. From the initial concept development to the final execution, our creative team continuously pushes the boundaries of conventional jewelry design.
Q: How do you envision customers connecting with this collection on a personal level?
A: I hope they love they love how fun, easy and addicting it is to put your own bracelet combinations together! We made it simple by pairing sets of Strands together, but once you have more than one set, you can create so many unique combos and styles. I love that Stranded looks great worn simply-with just one strand, and can be completely transformed as you layer on more and more strands. I want our customers to feel inspired when they wear Stranded, knowing that each piece has been thoughtfully crafted to reflect their individuality and give them the power to create their own look.
